Two consecutive years of the same language are required for graduation. Many colleges require two years of the same language for admission. Some colleges accept four years of high school language for the college language requirement. Four years of a language is highly recommended for all who are capable of advanced study. A student may place in Spanish 2 or French 2 based on demonstrated proficiency (a Spanish placement test given to incoming freshmen in May and students of French are placed according to program used and grades attained.) The Foreign Language department establishes the criteria for placement.
