Department Goals:

Teachers will encourage students to enhance their critical thinking skills by:

Performing inquiry-based labs and activities to home investigative thought. -
Thinking inductively to note trends and patterns in chemistry, biology, and physics. -
Deducing from general principles to predict feasible hypotheses. -
Incorporating oral presentations to demonstrate logical reasoning. -
Interpreting and evaluating bioethical/biomedical issues. -
Analyzing and synthesizing data collected from laboratory activities, primary sources, and supplemental resources. -
Thinking reflectively to consider past theories in light of current technological knowledge. -
Considering various models and theories and their practical applications in modern society. -
Assimilating new information into existing knowledge structures. -
Accommodating new data by forming new knowledge structures.

Teachers and students will use CD-roms and Internet sources to reinforce curriculum and to further investigate selected topics. A variety of projects, presentations, and group activities are utilized.

The sciences naturally foster a disciplined mind, an organized manner, and a logical approach to responsibilities that are prerequisites for leadership both in and out of the classroom.
