Senior Events and Responsibilities
SUMMER
-Return graduation portrait proofs to Mr. Barbera indicating the picture to be published in the yearbook. If you do not comply, Mr. Barbera will choose a picture for you.
SEPTEMBER
-First day of school - Seniors report at 9:45 AM
-Student ID’s – Seniors are expected to have their photos taken in their school uniform – without accessories.
-Graduation picture (proof) must be submitted to the yearbook staff
-Counseling Department meeting with the Seniors
-Mercy Day celebration and installation of officers
-Senior Fold-out picture taken for the yearbook – Girls need a college sweatshirt
-N.B. Study and prepare well for the first semester exam! Those who have a 93 average for the first semester, third quarter and fourth quarter are EXEMPT from a final exam in that course. Attendance, lateness, conduct and attitude are also deciding factors.
OCTOBER
-Senior/Freshmen Picnic – Seniors prepare skits, refreshments and gifts for their little sisters.
-Grades 9,10,11 testing – A good day to visit colleges
-Submit legal names for diplomas.
-Father/Daughter Dance
-Kairos retreat
-Parent’s yearbook message to their graduate due to Mrs. DeCicco.
NOVEMBER
-All Saints Day, holiday – College visit?
-School musical
-Thanksgiving Holiday – College visit?
DECEMBER
-Important Class Meetings: Mr. Conway from Jostens will speak about graduation announcements and supplies and then receive orders the following week.
-Candlelight – Ten seniors selected by their class are members of the tableau and must be present both Saturday and Sunday night. Seniors in the Music Department are expected to be present at both Saturday and Sunday performances. The remaining Seniors are expected to attend Sunday’s performance and be in the procession or serve as readers.
Senior angels must have silver garland to put in their hair and around their necks.
-Seniors receive personal GMA Christmas ornaments
-Angel costumes, given out in homeroom, must be laundered and returned to the homeroom moderators within the week after the Candlelight performance. Senior readers and performers return their Costume after the Sunday performance.
-College acceptances, grants, and scholarship letters should be taken to the Counseling Center.
JANUARY
-College-Age Social – Seniors are invited to attend a Friday after school social to greet the graduates.
-Martin Luther King Jr. Day – Good day to schedule a college visit.
-College acceptances, grants, and scholarship letters should be taken to the Counseling Center.
FEBRUARY
-Winter Formal
- Senior Breakfast hosted one morning by the Office of Institutional Advancement
-College acceptances, grants, and scholarship letters should be taken to the Counseling Center.
MARCH
-Father/Daughter Liturgy and Brunch
-Senior Immersion Experience – All are required to attend.
-Kairos retreat
-Senior quilt – The girls will be issued a fabric square to decorate.
-Senior mother/daughter photo – To be used at the Senior Mother/ daughter liturgy slide show, digital format best
-College acceptances, grants, and scholarship letters should be taken to the Counseling Center.
APRIL
-Mandatory Prom meeting for all parents
-Prom
-Pot Luck Dinner
-Graduation tickets and ordered Josten’s graduation announcements and supplies distributed to Seniors-three Seniors will be nominated to crown the Blessed Mother:

-A baby picture and graduation picture are requested by the Mothers’ Club to adorn the glass corridor. Pictures will be returned.

MAY
-Mother/Daughter Liturgy and Brunch – appropriate attire for Mass
-AP examinations
-Hearing of Graduation Speeches- the top twenty Seniors in the class are invited to write a valedictory or salutatory speech and deliver it to a group of faculty and classmates. Two, chosen by this group, will deliver their speeches at Graduation.
-May Liturgy and Alumnae Induction & Tea – Dress up appropriately for Mass
-Arts Festival
-College acceptances, grants, and scholarship letters should be taken to the Counseling Center.
-Senior Appreciation Day and Activities Assembly (Student club leaders and editors will speak about their year’s accomplishments)
-Last week before graduation – all must return books, locker keys, activities pins, pay library fees etc.
-Graduation attire: long white dress-not strapless, white shoes and white gloves
-Graduation and Baccalaureate Practice (Tuesday through Friday after Memorial Day) – All Seniors must be present and bring the white shoes that they will wear for graduation. Make no appointments or schedule work hours during the school day.
-Baccalaureate Liturgy (Wednesday, 7 PM, before Saturday’s graduation) – No ticket required. All are invited to attend. Invite relatives/friends you are not able to invite to graduation. Dress-up attire appropriate for Mass.
-Class Day Assembly (Friday before graduation and before the last graduation practice.) – This is an awards assembly. Seniors should be in dress-up attire. Individuals from the community present awards to individual Seniors. Promptness is a must because the Seniors sit on the stage in their graduation seats for this assembly. Parents are invited to attend this assembly.
-Graduation (Doors open for guests one hour, 15 minutes before the ceremony.) Two reserved tickets and three general tickets are allotted to each Senior.
GENERAL SUGGESTIONS:
-Consider fewer hours working any “outside” job.
-Leadership in activities, teams, school events takes more time.
Prepare! Cooperate with each other! Collaborate on possible events,
Expected outcomes! Share the joy of success with peers and parents!
-Complete college applications early (during the summer). Consider possible essay ideas and make outlines about what you would write.
