About the Principal
Miss Mary Kirby
Ms. Kirby has been a Principal for the last 10 years, most recently with Bishop McDevitt High School in Wyncote, PA. There she led a student body of 400 and created programming to address and serve the range of needs of her students.
Before her time at Bishop McDevitt, Ms. Kirby was principal of her alma mater, John W. Hallahan Catholic Girls' High School. Prior to that, Ms. Kirby held various roles in administration and as a mathematics teacher. In fact, it was her deep love of teaching which led her back to the classroom this year, where, in addition to her principal responsibilities, she also taught a trigonometry course.
Ms. Kirby earned her undergraduate degree from Gwynedd Mercy University, a M.S. Educational Leadership, Summa cum Laude, from Saint Joseph's University, and continual education credits from the University of Pennsylvania, Drexel University and St. Charles Seminary. Currently, she is a Neubauer Fellow at the Philadelphia Academy of School Leaders, having been selected to be in the inaugural class of that program.
Ms. Kirby has a great commitment to and many connections within the Catholic community of Philadelphia. She has great respect for the Mercy charism and the Sisters of Mercy hold personal meaning for her. Her own sister, Peg, is a Sister of Mercy. Ms. Kirby is honored to now be affiliated more actively with the community.
