About the Principal

Ms. Susan Merrill

Ms. Susan Merrill serves as the 22nd Principal of Gwynedd Mercy Academy High School since its founding in 1861.

With more than 25 years of experience in education, Ms. Merrill brings a wealth of knowledge and a deep commitment to academic excellence and Mercy values. Her leadership is rooted in a passion for guiding students toward success—both academically and personally—and fostering a vibrant, faith-based learning community.

Ms. Merrill’s career spans nearly three decades in private secondary education. Before becoming Principal, she served as Director of College Counseling at Gwynedd Mercy Academy High School, where she led programs supporting students and families through the college admissions process and contributed to school-wide initiatives as a member of the Principal’s Leadership Team.

Prior to joining GMAHS, Ms. Merrill spent more than a decade at Germantown Academy as Associate Director of College Counseling and House Head, overseeing student life and mentoring faculty advisors. She also taught AP Psychology and developed innovative wellness programs.

Ms. Merrill holds a Master of Science in Secondary Education from the University of Pennsylvania and a Bachelor of Arts in Biology and Psychology from Franklin & Marshall College, graduating with honors. She has presented at national conferences on topics such as “The Teenage Brain and the College Process.”

Her impressive background, dedication to student success, and passion for Mercy education make Ms. Merrill an outstanding leader as Gwynedd Mercy Academy High School continues its tradition of academic excellence, faith, and community.
