Global Connections Program
The program fosters globally-minded students rooted in Mercy Catholic values, empowering young women to excel academically, lead ethically, and engage compassionately. Through academics, cross-cultural exploration, and service, we cultivate curiosity, understanding, and a commitment to social justice. Global Connections graduates will be agents of positive change, ready to tackle the world's challenges with knowledge, skills, and empathy.
ALL YEARS
- Maintain a minimum general average of 92 for the remainder of their time at GMA.
- Maintain active participation in Model UN.
- Meet with the Program Chair once per cycle.
Meet Course and Experiential Learning Requirements:
Mandatory Courses
- 4 years of a single World Language, AP Environmental Science, AP Language and Composition, AP Seminar, Global-designated Social Studies Course
Electives (1.5 – 2 credits)
- AP Comparative Government, H Global Horizons, Global Fiber Arts, AP Human Geography, Economics and Entrepreneurship
Required Experiential Learning
- Model UN Participation
- Globally-focused Service-Learning
Suggested Experiential Learning
- Globally-focused Externship
- Participation in Diversity Club, AAPI, Black Alliance Club, Mercy Effect, Foreign Film Club, Travel and Service Trips
SOPHOMORE YEAR
- Written research project proposal by the end of sophomore year to advance in the program. Identify an essential question and potential research resources. Investigate internship and Service-Learning opportunities to support your Senior action-research project.
JUNIOR YEAR
- Complete an outside-of-school Global-related Service-Learning (before the fall of Senior year).
SENIOR YEAR
- Complete Senior research project and portfolio to be graded according to a rubric.
- End-of-year project presentation to graduate as a Global Connections student.
GRADUATION
- Passing students will receive a special distinction upon graduation.
- Earn an extra half credit for the completion of the Senior Global Action-Research Project and the culminating Portfolio highlighting cross-cultural and global co-curricular experiences, experiential learning & coursework.
APPLICATION PROCESS
- Complete All Application Requirements by Monday, March 24, 2025
- Written Essay
- Interview
- Consideration of Current Foreign Language, English, and Social Studies Grades
- Current 9th graders apply at course selection time.
- Program Acceptance notifications will be provided by April 2025.
