About The Coach

COACH RICH POHLE, HEAD COACH

Rich Pohle, PGA, is the Head Coach of the Gwynedd Mercy Academy Women’s Golf program and has served in this role for nine years. He brings more than 39 years of coaching experience to the program, including 30 years of coaching men’s golf at Williams College. Coach Pohle was a four-year letter winner in golf at the University of Maine, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Education with a major in Physical Education and a minor in Biology. A member of the PGA of America since 1975, he has also competed professionally and participated in seven National PGA Club Professional Championships and seven National Senior Club Professional Championships, winning the NENY Vardon Trophy for scoring average four times.

Coach Pohle’s career includes an extensive list of professional and collegiate accomplishments. Professionally, he has been recognized with many honors, including NENY Teacher of the Year, multiple NENY Section Player of the Year awards, induction into the NENY Hall of Fame, the NENY Roland Stafford Award for sportsmanship, and, most recently, induction into the Allied Gold Association Hall of Fame in 2025. Collegiately, his teams at Williams College won the first NESCAC Conference Championship in 1984 and went on to capture a league-record 11 titles, along with 19 “Little Three” Championships. He also earned the Gordon McCullough Award and the prestigious Larbon Harris Award, becoming the first NCAA Division III coach to receive this honor. Coach Pohle’s philosophy emphasizes passion, commitment, improvement, and integrity.
