MONARCH MORNING Our first Monarch Morning will be held on October 9, 2019. Please see the schedule below for more information. One component of our first Monarch Morning is a presentation by David Fialko, a Certified Prevention Specialist from the Council of Southeast Pennsylvania Inc. He will address the dangers of vaping and nicotine addiction as well as other forms of addiction. In recent months vaping has been a major issue in our news media with stories ranging from this being a public health crisis to news stories claiming all of this is an over-reaction. It can be hard to make sense of it all! The goal is for Mr. Fialko to address the topic in a way that arms our students with information so they may make better informed decisions. Mr. Fialko participated in our pre-prom assembly last year and he received excellent reviews from our juniors and seniors.

ACADEMICS
MATHEMATICS Students in Dr. Clementi's Math classes were very busy this week! Statistics class created a Human Dotplot to represent their heights and look for potential outliers, while AP Statistics classes plotted data points using their hand and the amount of candy they could grab in their span. Algebra I enjoyed playing Equation Bingo on Wednesday! What a fun week of mathematics!
ENGINEERING Students from our engineering class experienced some engineering and women's empowerment on Friday, October 4! First stop, courtesy of Mrs. Angela Masterson P'22, was a visit to the Comcast innovation lab and then on to the "Sphere" in Comcast Two lobby, which illustrated the power of the idea.

JOIN THE SWARM Our Soccer Team created an "all sport spirit t-shirt" to be worn at all athletic events. The shirts are available through the Athletic Office for $15 each during lunch periods. Coach Gretta, the Varsity Field Hockey Coach at Merion Mercy, was recently diagnosed with Stage 4 metastatic breast cancer at the early age of 32. Our alum and Varsity Field Hockey Coach, Alex McMahan '05 initiated a pink t-shirt to be worn during warmups of league hockey games to help with the burden of Gretta's overwhelming medical expenses. The soccer team asked that the proceeds from the "Swarm" t-shirts go to Coach Gretta as well. True "Mercy in Action" by both our field hockey and soccer teams!!
For more information on how to get a "Swarm" t-shirt, please email Mrs. Fasano at tfasano@gmahs.org. |
