SEMESTER ASSESMENTS Semester Assessments will take place this week: Monday, December 16 – Thursday, December 19. Friday, December 20 will be available as a make-up day if any student is absent from school on an assessment day. Semester Assessment grades will be available on Rediker the week that we return from Christmas break.
Because assessment days are half-days, inclement weather would force the closing of school instead of a 2-hour delay schedule. In the event of a school closure due to inclement weather during next week's semester assessments, please be aware that the assessments scheduled on the potential day of closure would occur on the day that we return to school. For example, if a weather event on Monday, December 16th resulted in a day off from school, the assessments scheduled for Monday would shift to Tuesday, and the assessment schedule would continue to adjust accordingly.
ACADEMICS
ART Congratulations to Elizabeth Gomez '22 whose photo was selected to be included in the Drexel University High School Photography Contest Exhibition. Her photograph will be displayed in Drexel's gallery on 33rd and Arch Streets in February 2020!
INTRO TO ENGINEERING Students in the Intro to Engineering class took their own photos and used them to create CAD models on Siemens Solid Edge software. After they used the 3D printer to produce them, faculty and staff were asked to vote for their favorite designs. The winner of the "contest" was Isabella Kellner '20 with her LOVE sign design. Also pictured below are Christmas chocolate molds produced for a final project.
LEADERSHIP DEPARTMENT
GRACE STETLER '22, RE-SPORT Service and athletics have always been a large part of who I am. In elementary school, I created a service event in which I collected change to benefit a track team in Philadelphia that couldn't afford new running shoes. My collection was a success and I wanted to continue pairing service with sports throughout my academic career. As I ended my freshman year at Gwynedd, I had an idea that I wanted to pursue. I did some research and reconnected with a parent from my elementary school. She knew of a high school in Philadelphia that struggles financially with supplying sports equipment. I realized that I am fortunate enough to have extra, and I found that to be true for many other families as well. I developed a program called Re-Sport. Re-Sport is a donation program designed for all sports programs at Gwynedd to give back. I collect gently used sports equipment, athletic shoes and clothing for the Christo Rey School in Philadelphia. Additionally, donations of deodorant are collected for Face to Face clients in Germantown. I presented my plan to Mrs. Fasano and the director at Christo Rey School. Both schools approved the program and collections began with our fall sports and will continue in the winter and spring. I realize that having clear communication, following through on commitments, and having a passion for motivating others, are helpful skills for leadership. Listening and following your heart are two other very important skills that can easily be overlooked. I value these the most, and attribute those to becoming a successful leader.
