Why All-Girls?

Academic Excellence: the Foundation of a Mercy Education.

"Nothing is more important to society than the careful instruction  of women."

~Catherine McAuley, Foundress of the Sisters of Mercy

Academic Excellence can be defined as an individual student working to achieve her academic best, and she is empower to define it. Our student-center curriculum and schedule, allows every student to use her unique talents and strengths in the classroom while also challenging to her to evolve her thinking and problem-solving across subjects and disciplines. At Gwynedd, our students benefit from connecting the tools provided in a 21st century classroom with a strong foundation in critical thinking, reading and writing effectively, and collaborative problem-solving.

by Bridget Day '19

My name is Bridget Day, and I am a junior here at Gwynedd!  Since the fall of 2017, I have been an intern under Mrs. Marbach (President) and Mrs. Fasano (Director of Athletics), working with the construction of the new turf field.  Since Mrs. Marbach's induction as President of our school, she has made it a goal that students become involved in various internship positions within school departments. I was fortunate to be asked to take on this specific job, which has presented me with various opportunities.

Through my internship, I have taken part in a variety of activities, and worked with members of different departments. Mrs. Marbach and I have worked closely in meetings, and have been lucky enough to develop a professional friendship. I have been able to sit in on board meetings with both the contractor and the construction company. I have also been able to coordinate and contribute to events concerning marketing for the turf. Back in October, a groundbreaking ceremony to mark the beginning of construction was held. I helped plan the event, along with the advancement office, and was lucky enough to meet the members of the board and be recognized for my position. I have worked with the AP Environmental Science class, visiting the site and learning about the environmental process behind the construction and the creation of the complex turf irrigation system.

This internship has greatly shaped my junior year. I am so fortunate to be a part of such a unique, engaging opportunity. I greatly support the continuation of the internship program and its reach into the different departments throughout the school.  I have even been able to work with my fellow interns on collaborative projects. Overall, my internship is one of the most rewarding aspects of my life at Gwynedd. I am thankful for it.
