Practice = The Best Preparation

The 7th Grade Practice Test gives girls a direct preview of what to expect during the 8th grade Entrance-Scholarship Exam in October.

  • Time-Management – During the test, your daughter will be able to practice how to work and move quickly and effectively. It is best for them to not rush, take a few deep breaths, and be mindful of trying to do their best!
  • Opportunity – At the practice test, girls will meet other 7th graders who could potentially be their future classmates!
  • Sitting – Your daughter will be able to practice sitting for three and half hours (with a few short breaks) and feel what it is like to take a test in a Gwynedd classroom!

Why All-Girls?

Empowerment: Opportunity exemplified

by a Mercy Education

Today, Gwynedd Mercy Academy High School carries forward a legacy of over 150 years, with our roots in Catherine McAuley's desire to provide an education to women in order that they could define their own futures.

  • Empowerment in the classroom.  Beginning the classroom, we challenge our students to think critically, write effectively, and participate in a dialogue.  This foundation of engaging education through active listening, careful consideration, and compassion conversation allows our students to gain the confidence to express their beliefs and ideas freely.
    • In Mrs. Wordeman's biotechnology class students are given final research projects to teach the class about a new and upcoming field in biotechnology. This allows each student to showcase their own learning and find similarities in the materials. Additionally, the class watches films related to the material learned in class to show how the material we learn in class is not correctly portrayed in film. It leads to great discussion that engages both scientific and artistic mind. (Mrs. Wordeman teaches physics, biology, and chemistry and is also the JV softball coach).
  • Empowerment outside the classroom. As a student-athlete, student-artist, or student-leader, a Gwynedd Girl balances the lessons she learns in the classroom with her unique talents to create opportunities for herself. Our students advocate for themselves and causes they are passionate about.
  • Beyond Gwynedd.  Here at Gwynedd Mercy Academy High School, we believe learning is a life-long process. Every June, our graduates are poised to take the next step to college and are prepared to contribute meaningfully to our world.

Dr. Colleen McNulty Benjamin, DO

Gwynedd Mercy Academy High School Class of 2006

Loyola University, MD Class of 2010

Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine

I consider it a privilege to call myself an alumna of Gwynedd Mercy Academy High School. My high school experience helped shape the person I am today and provided me with the necessary foundation to succeed in my current career as a pediatrician, at Meadowbrook Pediatrics. Going into high school, I had no idea that I would eventually be headed down the path of the medical field. I had a wide variety of interests, and Gwynedd allowed me to explore all of these by promoting well-rounded students and education. However, even though I enjoyed most subjects, it was truly my math and science classes that had me most intrigued.  I knew I wanted to work with kids and combining my newfound love of science-I started thinking that pediatric medicine could be a good fit for me.

I knew becoming a doctor would be a long road. It would require a lot of work, but I already had a strong basis in science from Gwynedd and I would be able to build upon this further during college and medical school. However, what I most appreciate about my experience at Gwynedd, is that it taught me so much more beyond my classes.  It allowed me to acquire skills in time management, how to work well with others, and how to handle conflict. It provided me with lifelong friendships and showed me the importance of compassion for others, especially that there is nothing more important than kindness and helping those around you. All of these experiences were essential in helping me become the physician I am today and I am so fortunate to have a career that I truly love. I am proud to be a Gwynedd Girl!

"WE WALK WITH..."

Gwynedd students organiz/ed a school-wide Peace Walk entitled, "We Walk With..." in solidarity with the victims of the Parkland, FL shooting and for peace across our country and throughout the world. Earlier in the week, students made origami cranes representing their prayers for peace, and they were hung throughout the school corridors. Wednesday morning began with a student-led prayer service and an impassioned speech by Gwynedd Junior, Olivia Manfrey.

Students then silently processed through the red and gold corridors of Gwynedd in a walk for peace, led by event organizers carrying a hand painted banner bearing the names of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School victims. The somber and prayer-filled walk  throughout the red and gold corridors concluded with a final prayer in the Performing Arts Center. It was there that our school community formed a single circle of Mercy in a powerful and moving display of unity and prayer for peace.

We Walk With one another.
We Walk With Mercy.
We Walk With peace in our hearts.
We Walk With victims of violence.
We Walk With those seeking justice.
We Walk With You.
