As a member of The Forum of Executive Women (FOEW), President Denise Marbach '72 joined dozens of women from around the state in the State Capitol Rotunda in Harrisburg on March 27 to show support for passage of Senate Resolution 255, which was sponsored by Senator Judith L. Schwank (D-Berks). The resolution urges privately held and publicly traded companies and nonprofit institutions doing business in Pennsylvania to have a minimum of 30 percent women directors by December 31, 2020 and measure their progress toward equal representation of men and women in leadership positions on an annual basis.

The Executive Women's Council of Pittsburgh (EWC) was instrumental in bringing Senate Resolution 255 to the forefront. The resolution is modeled after PA House Resolution 273, which was introduced by Gwynedd Alumna, Rep. Kate Harper '81 (R-Montgomery) with support of The Forum of Executive Women, the region's premier women's organization, actively working to increase the number of women in leadership roles, expand their impact and influence and position them to drive positive change in the Greater Philadelphia region.

GOVERNMENT FIELD TRIP

Image

For the last month, Mrs. Carty's AP Comparative Government class has been studying Iran, learning about the political, social, and economic structure of the country of Iran. As a part of the AP curriculum, in their studies the girls also are exploring the comparable areas of study within Great Britain, Russia, China, Mexico, and Nigeria.

Recently the class took a trip to the Persian Grille in Lafayette Hill, and feasted on a three course classic meal featuring lamb, chicken, cornish hen, hummus, chickpea cookies and Persian tea. They also celebrated the Iranian New Year known as Nowruz.

Here the class gathers in front of an altar that features many elements involved with the Iranian holiday.

MUSIC DEPARTMENT

Congratulations to Addie Olsen '18 and Anna Ridenour '20 who participated in PMEA Region Chorus Festival and Concert last week held at New Hope-Solebury H.S.  The level of performance was extremely impressive for high school-aged students and we are so proud of our girls for their achievements this year.  Anna Ridenour will continue on to perform at the All-State Orchestra Concert in Lancaster on April 21st.

The Fathers' Club will be hosting a Father/Daughter outing to the Phillies Game on May 12 at 7:00 PM.

The Phillies are playing the NY Mets, and we want to go cheer them on. There is nothing like a warm Spring night at the ballpark with our daughters.

We will be setting up either a tailgate or a picnic at the park before the game. Please use this SignUp Genius if you are interested so we can get a rough count of folks that want to go.

Parents are invited to this event that will provide a unique insight into the mind of a teenager. Drop in to the Wissahickon High School auditorium Thursday, April 19, anytime between 6-8PM. This program will show you what to look for in a teen's room that may be an indicator of drug use, abuse, or poor decision making. This is an integral step in identifying troubling behavior before crisis occurs.  Please use this information to initiate conversations with your children. However, this program is for adults only.
