COMMUNITY NEWS Sponsored by Ambler Kiwanis, in conjunction with the Lower Gwynedd Police Department and Wissahickon School District:
FREE HEART SCREENINGS FOR STUDENTS Our friends at La Salle College High School are teaming up with Simon's Heart to offer free heart screenings for any student (regardless of school) aged 12-19. The screening will take place on May 12 at La Salle High School located at 8605 W. Cheltenham Ave in Glenside, PA. The screening is intended for students who have never received an ECG exam or been examined by a cardiologist. The screening will look for undetected heart conditions that can lead to sudden cardiac arrest and death in the young, but is not a substitute for annual pediatric wellness visits. To register, students will need completed consent, medical and family history forms. What is Simon's Heart? Simon's Heart was established in 2005 in memory of Simon Sudman, a seemingly healthy three-month old who died from an undetected heart condition. The organization provides free heart screenings to students; advocates for legislation to protect student athletes; distributes AED devices through its crowdfunding site; promotes research through its digital registry; and raises awareness through cause marketing campaigns.
