IT'S OFFICIAL!

GWYNEDD WELCOMES ITS FIELD OF DREAMS!

Image

BREAKING NEWS!

On Friday afternoon, we received official word the our new, state-of-the-art, synthetic turf field has passed inspections and testing, and is ready for play!

Gwynedd Varsity Lacrosse will take the field tomorrow afternoon at 4PM to take on Merion Mercy Academy. Join us to cheer on the MONARCHS! This field would not have been possible without the great efforts and support of our entire Gwynedd community, and especially our generous donors, the Board of Trustees, our school administration, the members of the Athletics Enhancement Committee, and the staff of our Advancement Office. Thank you, one and all.

We look forward to a formal field blessing in the fall to welcome celebrate completion of the project construction. In the meantime, we welcome you to stop by, cheer on our MONARCHS, and of course, check out our new TURF!

Art Exhibit and Concert

Our annual spring celebration of the fine arts will feature exhibits of works created by our talented art students, followed by a concert of performances from our musicians and performers. The art exhibits will open for viewing beginning at 5PM and the concert will begin at 7PM in the PAC.

This year's concert theme is "music through the ages."  Our music ensembles will be performing selections from Mozart to Beyonce.  Glee Club, Chorale, Orchestra, String Ensemble, Girls with Guitars, the Mercy Melismatics, soloists, and dancers will present a varied selection of Classical, Broadway and Contemporary Popular music.  Gwynedd's String Ensemble promises to capture your attention with their own rendition of Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody, and the Melismatics will keep your feet tapping with Beyoncé's Love on Top! We hope you will join us!

SOPHOMORE IMMERSION RETREAT

"The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself

in the service of others." - Gandhi

On Friday, Gwynedd held its annual Sophomore Retreat.  With the theme of "Service", our girls were divided into 5 different groups and spent the day serving our friends at 4 different Catholic grade school (DePaul Catholic, St. Helena, St. Malachy, and Our Mother of Sorrows/ St. Ignatius) and our friends at Mercy Neighborhood Ministries.  It was a truly amazing day. As always with service, it is a two way street; while the sites benefited from our presence, our girls benefited just as much.

AN INTERDISCIPLINARY DAY IN "THE BIG APPLE"

Image

On Friday, April 20th, the Music, Art, French, and Latin departments made an "interdisciplinary field trip" to the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Metropolitan Opera. The group of 87 students, parents and faculty members viewed fabulous exhibits related to their disciplines at the Museum, and then walked cross-town and more than 22 blocks south through Central Park to Lincoln Center to watch the contemporary premier production of Massenet's opera, Cendrillon (Cinderella). Although the day was long and many miles were travelled, it was agreed that the experience was most rewarding and truly unforgettable!

FREE HEART SCREENINGS FOR STUDENTS

Our friends at La Salle College High School are teaming up with Simon's Heart to offer free heart screenings for any student (regardless of school) aged 12-19. The screening will take place on May 12 at La Salle High School located at 8605 W. Cheltenham Ave in Glenside, PA.

The screening is intended for students who have never received an ECG exam or been examined by a cardiologist. The screening will look for undetected heart conditions that can lead to sudden cardiac arrest and death in the young, but is not a substitute for annual pediatric wellness visits. To register, students will need completed consent, medical and family history forms.

What is Simon's Heart?

Simon's Heart was established in 2005 in memory of Simon Sudman, a seemingly healthy three-month old who died from an undetected heart condition. The organization provides free heart screenings to students; advocates for legislation to protect student athletes; distributes AED devices through its crowdfunding site; promotes research through its digital registry; and raises awareness through cause marketing campaigns. For more information, visit www.simonsheart.org.
