Meet Nifemi Awosika '19 and Carly VanCamp '19, the new Gwynedd Ambassador Co-Presidents for the 2018-2019 school year. Both young women are energized and ready for a fun-filled senior year! You'll be seeing these two at all our admissions events including Open House, Visitation Days, the Entrance-Scholarship Exam, and more. Our Ambassador Co-Presidents are important leaders at GMAHS and are excited to talk to you about all that Gwynedd has to offer!   Talking to current students is an important component of your high school search because it will allow you to gain a genuine, first-person perspective about what being a student GMAHS is all about!  Be bold and say hello to Carly and/or Nifemi when you see them at Gwynedd this fall – they can't wait to meet you!

The girls share some of who they are and why they chose Gwynedd Mercy Academy High School to continue their education.

Why did I choose Gwynedd?

Well, to be fair, Gwynedd chose me. I am from Nigeria and my parents made an executive decision with regards to where I was to attend to high school. Though the decision was made for me, without question it was the right decision for me! What I love most about Gwynedd is that from the beginning I have always felt part of the community. The environment is extremely welcoming, and I always feel at home in the walls of Gwynedd and  surrounded by my four hundred sisters.

Last month, thirteen rising Juniors and rising Seniors enjoyed a Coastal Conservation Tour in Costa Rica. They traveled with World Strides and Science Faculty Member, Mrs. Saunders, to learn about Tropical Wet Forests flora and fauna, Beach Conservation, Cetacean Biology (Whales), Butterfly life cycles, Costa Rican culture, dance and politics. The group also performed service, cleaning trails of the Manuel Antonio National Park. Afterward, they enjoyed down town ziplining, horseback riding, and canoeing to a swimming cove in the Pacific tropics. New friendships were formed with students from Cedarville High School in Arkansas, and friendships strengthened through this amazing adventure. The students will now participate in a 10 hour-course through World Strides and gain three college credits in Global Studies from the University of California.

Congratulations to Alumna Lauren Morton '04 who recently named the new head coach for Boston University's Lacrosse Team. Lauren was the Captain of Gwynedd's undefeated 2004 Lacrosse team and in 2013 was inducted into GMA's Athletic Hall of Fame
