'SHE IS THE FUTURE' DAY

Image

In celebration of International Women's Day on Friday, Gwynedd welcomed more than 30 esteemed Alumnae for She Is the Future Career Day. The day-long celebration was comprised of a morning Entrepreneur Panel, Breakout Sessions led by the alumnae businesswomen and industry experts, and a College Panel hosted by our collegiate alumnae – each focused on empowering our young women leaders beyond the classroom.

The inspiring alumnae shared their professional experiences and wisdom from industries ranging from Entrepreneurship to Astrophysics, Neuropsychology to TV Production, Scientific Research to Fashion Design, Human Resources to Journalism.

A Student's View: She Is the Future

"She is the Future' Day, highlighting the careers of Gwynedd alumnae across many fields. Both the alumnae on the panels and in the breakout sessions emphasized the importance of networking, mentorships, mindfulness, and obstacles in the workforce.

The women presenters really showed the vastness of what a Gwynedd Girl is capable of accomplishing. The panelists offered points of view that showed the students that being successful, an entrepreneur, and a woman can occur all at once. One panelist offered advice that you should always keep and value your passions and seek a complimentary career. The sessions allowed alumnae to speak to and inspire the students on a more personal level. Since the students chose their speakers, the girls got to become more educated on potential careers that the girls are interested in. These alumnae came from a diverse range of fields from cancer research to sales to law.

Each of the women bestowed much wisdom upon the students by taking the time to explain various fields and how they became successful. Attorney Christine Wiegand advised to always be open to new things because even if it doesn't go perfectly in your plan, you can always acquire a new skill. Head of Human Resources Colleen Stratton explained the value in gracefully and considerately dealing with conflicting opinions and statements, and always asking questions. Saleswoman Jordan Biello emphasized the importance of putting yourself out there and following through with your meetings, intentions, etc.

Memorable Quotes from the day:

  • "Keep with your passions and find them in your career. Believe in yourself everyday." – Sunny Timbo White '01, Founder and CEO, Xavier Creative House
  • "Put your fears aside and just do it." – Dera Lee '97, Founder and CEO, Dera Lee Productions
  • "Be open to new things. The least that will happen is that you will learn a new skill." – Christine Wiegand, Esq. '91
  • "Put yourself out there and get involved." – Jordan Biello '08, Sales, The Hershey Company
  • "Keep an open mind for everything that might come your way. Sometimes when
you least expect it, a door opens with enormous opportunity." Sue Meitner '88, P'22, President, Centennial Lending Group

GMA BLOOD DRIVE

Image

The Gwynedd Mercy Academy High School Blood Drive is taking place on Wednesday, March 13 from 8:30 am to 1:30 pm.

To participate in the Blood Drive, please call Steve Fromhold at (215) 646-8815 x317 or email sfromhold@gmahs.org to set up your appointment. Every donation could save up to 3 lives!

WEATHER EMERGENCY REMINDERS

If a weather emergency occurs during the school day leading to an early dismissal, GMA will announce an official dismissal time while also responding to the dismissal times of individual districts.  If an individual school district calls an earlier dismissal than ours we will allow both drivers and those taking the bus to leave at the corresponding time.  The remaining student body will be dismissed at the official GMA time.

If you choose to pick your child up before the official GMA dismissal time you may sign your daughter out at the front desk.  Please be reminded that you must come in the building to get your daughter at the front desk if it is before the official GMA dismissal time.  Also, you will need to park in the parking lot.  The front of the school building must be kept clear for bus dismissals and the Circle of Mercy should only be used if you are picking up at the official dismissal time.

PLEASE NOTE:
Reminders about 2 hour delays, school closings and school districts:
Students should follow their corresponding school district procedures.

  • School Closings: If the school district providing student busing is closed and Gwynedd Mercy Academy is open, students will have an excused absence from school.

  • 2-Hour Delay: If the school district providing student busing is operating on a 2-Hour Delay and Gwynedd is open, student lateness will be excused.

  • Alternatively, if Gwynedd operates on a 2-Hour delay and the corresponding district operates at their regular time, the building will be open at 7:30 AM and students should go directly to the cafeteria until 9:00 AM.
