THANK YOU 6TH and 7th GRADE FAMILIES! Thank you to all the 6th and 7th graders who participated in taking the practice entrance tests on April 27th or April 28th!
We hope your daughter left the practice test feeling more confident in preparing for 7th grade and the Entrance-Scholarship Exam this fall which will take place October 5th (with an alternate date of October 20th)! Be sure to mark your calendars now!
FINISH THE SCHOOL YEAR STRONG! Remind for your daughters... Does she have a project or test coming up? Encourage her to study hard and put forth her best effort! It is very important that she keep up with her school work, even at the end of the year! The subjects and lessons she learns in 5th, 6th, and 7th grades are the foundation of what she will learn in the future during high school. *KEEP HER READING* Reading for school assignments (and for fun) will help build your daughter's vocabulary and comprehension skills! *KEEP HER WRITING* As you well know, your daughter will need to have strong writing skills in order to be successful in high school and for her future! Encourage her to be attentive in ELA class. By keeping her writing skills sharp over the summer, she will strengthen her problem-solving and reasoning skills. Writing can be fun, too! It will allow your daughter to use her imagination and express herself creatively.
Monarch News – Summer Editions The Monarch News will take a short hiatus in the summer with only one publication in June, July, and August. The editions will highlight application preparation/advice and summer highlights. Our July and August editions will share specific application directions and best practices! Our online application for the Class of 2024 will open on August 1, 2019!
Have a great summer!
Mrs. Lisa Hohenstein, M.Ed Art Department A Mercy education is important because it gives young women the opportunity to learn how to make a difference in the world. Mercy students learn the importance of living and acting justly in all they do. Catherine McAuley's legacy is about service and mercy. She could not have foreseen the complexity of today's modern world and the challenges our students face, however our mission, inspired by Catherine McAuley, is a compass for our students. They learn to be kind and empathic leaders. They are empowered to navigate life with compassion and competence. Our students become strong Christian women who manage families and professional careers with love and integrity. Art education is part of Mercy education. Art making brings out unique talents and abilities in our students. It is a form of expression and communication. Art can be a vehicle for social justice. Art teaches students to respect individual differences and challenges them to embrace diversity. Art students learn there is more than one solution and there are multiple perspectives for everything. The art department at Gwynedd expects academic excellence balanced with healthy mindfulness that promotes spiritual health. Creativity and inspiration are gifts from God. Our students share their creativity and confidently express themselves. Art teaches our students to act bravely on inspiration, to take risks, to "go for it". Art also teaches our students how to accept challenges and failures gracefully and how to start over, or go "back to the drawing board". Art teaches resilience and commitment. Art teaches creative and critical thinking. Our students honor themselves and their Mercy education by creating visual art that communicates and shares their ideas, beliefs, and dreams with our community and the world.
