Mission & Service Trip - Panama City
We started our day at mass where we met Andy, the local Catholic Charity Disaster Relief Coordinator. Andy has dedicated his time to helping rebuild his community after Hurricane Michael and restoring hope in Panama City. We saw God in Andy through his selflessness and desire to give back to Bay County, Fl. We’re looking forward to spending the rest of the trip with Andy and honoring God through our service.
On Friday, we met two hurricane survivors, Miss Jane and Miss Philomena. At Miss Jane’s house, we cleaned up her yard. She lost her husband who was a war vet and son just before the hurricane and she was very appreciative of our help. At Miss Philomena’s house, we cleaned up her yard and cut down some trees. She, too, lost her husband and went through the hurricane alone. Both women were very selfless because they felt others in their community needed more help than themselves. This showed us the unity of the community and how we can see God in everyone we meet.
Thank you Panama City! As we return home, we reflect on our journey and appreciate all that God had given us. We are especially grateful for the opportunity to do ordinary things for extraordinary people. Their stories of loss, faith, and hope opened our hearts and minds. We look forward to sharing our Mercy experience with our Gwynedd community. May we continue to serve as Catherine McAuley calls us to be global missionary women. Until we meet again...
